The Lodge

Mawusi Bush Lodge is a unique experience in self-catering hospitality.
The Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate is situated just a few kilometres outside of the quaint little town of Hoedspruit. The town borders many private game reserves/farms which in turn border the Kruger National Park. The inclusion of these into the Park has created the area known as the Greater Kruger National Park which now covers more than 20 000 000 hectares.
Whilst the Estate is in the middle of the African bushveld it is conveniently situated close to some fine restaurants, shopping centres and the Eastgate Airport which is only 16 km away.
Mawusi Bush Lodge is the ideal springboard from which to launch your tours to the numerous attractions in the Hoedspruit area including the world-renowned Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon, the largest green canyon in the world.
Mawusi Bush Lodge is a unique experience in the self-catering hospitality.
Our Lodge is highly rated for its impeccable cleanliness, friendly staff and attention to detail. We also pride ourselves as one of only a very few lodges in the industry that is fully wheelchair accessible and meets the requirements laid down by the SABS standards for disabled friendly recognition.
Hoedspruit can experience extreme summer temperatures so we have installed ceiling fans and air conditioners in all the rooms to ensure your comfort at all times.
We have solar power providing electricity to the light and plug points in the Lodge during those irritating periods of loadshedding.
For those who suffer from allergies, our Lodge does not have a thatch roof. Your bed is free of falling thatch debris and the mess caused by squirrels and lizards which love being in the roof.
We have furnished the Lodge with comfortable, vibrant coloured colonial style furniture, quality rugs and the decor brings in a touch of Africa.
Our Accommodation
We are of the opinion that mosquito nets, whilst aesthetically attractive, are impractical for the Hoedspruit climate because they restrict the air circulation and the benefits of the ceiling fans and air conditioners.
For your convenience we have, therefore, elected not to install them. However, due to Hoedspruit being a low risk malaria area, for your protection, we have fitted mosquito netting to all our windows and the Lodge is sprayed three monthly inside and out with a pesticide which is safe to both humans and animals.
All our rooms have a stunning view of the African bushveld. The large sliding doors give a feeling of openness and being truly part of nature. The rooms have direct access to the swimming pool and patio where you can enjoy your evening sundowner.

Guest facilities

Living Areas
The lounge is furnished with vibrant coloured contemporary colonial style furniture which beckons you to put your feet up and relax after your evening meal as you recollect the day’s excitement, over a drink. The tiled floor is dotted with beautiful Orienal rugs which contribute to the ambiance of luxury. The theme of the decor is the mighty elephant which is being poached for its valuable ivory. We have provided a flat-screen television set with an M-net Bouquet for you to enjoy your favourite soapy, sports event or just sit back and watch a movie.
The lounge leads out onto a covered patio. Out here you may choose to take your meals or just laze on the camp chairs taking in the tranquillity of the bushveld. Your excitement will reach new heights when the warthog arrive to wallow in the mud or antelope come to drink at the waterhole.

Kitchen and Catering
At Mawusi Bush Lodge we can provide self-catering accommodation. We have a fully equipped kitchen with everything you’ll need to prepare your favourite meals including a four plate electric stove with oven, microwave and fridge freezer. Although the kitchen is not fitted with a dishwasher, it is serviced daily except on weekends and public holidays.
What would a trip into the bushveld be without a traditional South African braai (barbecue). A Weber kettle braai is available on the patio to enhance your “braai” experience.

The Great Outdoors
On entering the property you will be surrounded by the beautiful indigenous garden of huge trees, impala and kudu lilies, aloes, halfmens (elephant’s trunk) and a collection of more than 160 cycads from 34 of the different South African species and also some from Africa, South America and Mexico. You’re welcome to view our private collection of extremely rare cycads species which have been plundered to the extent that they are now extinct in their natural environment as well as our collection of bonsai and indigenous and foreign orchids.
You will enjoy the sparkling blue splash pool with a martini seat and wooden deck with sun loungers and umbrella. To protect your health we insist on the use of bath sheets to cover the mattresses should you wish to use the loungers. Both bath sheets and swimming towels are also provided on request. The pool, deck and the open patio overlook the waterhole which attracts many animals and bird species. A braai (barbecue) is always a huge social event in South Africa. Sitting around the fire enjoying your drink and good company whilst the evening air is filled with the aromas from the meat sizzling on your braai remains a typical bushveld experience.
